Seth Johnson got the goals that fired Leeds to a 2-1 win over Blackburn but midfield veteran David Batty got the praise for helping under-fire manager Peter Reid.
Head coach Kevin Blackwell says the 34-year-old Batty can play a big part in steering Leeds out of the relegation zone.
"David Batty gave us the experience that we knew we needed," Blackwell told Leeds website after Saturday's win.
"His head is still very bright and he knows how to play the game. What we had to do is get him back into condition knowing that the old bones are creaking now and again. Ticketmaster
"He lasted the game and he was still chasing at the end so there is life in David Batty and whoever wrote him off was wrong to do so."
Batty, in his second spell with the club, is the only player left from the squad which took the Football League championship in 1992.
He signed from school in 1987 when Leeds legend Billy Bremner was manager. He rejoined in 1998 after successful spells at Blackburn - where he won the 1995 Premiership title - and Newcastle.

"Everyone knows David Batty is Leeds United through and through, and I am so delighted for him because he goes back a long way here and I just want him to lead us through patches like this," he said.
"He is Leeds
United and he has got to show others what it means to be a Leeds United player."
