Marseille striker Didier Drogba, who hit a Champions League hat-trick in midweek, was on target again as he scored the opening goal in his team's 3-1 win against Bastia.

The win keeps Marseille in second spot in the French championship, a point behind Monaco who defeated Guingamp 2-1 on Saturday.

Ivory Coast international Drogba, who also scored against Nice last weekend before his three-goal flourish against Partizan Belgrade, opened the scoring after 15 minutes on Sunday.

Steve Marlet made it 2-0 just four minutes later before Bastia pulled a goal back four minutes into the second half.

However, Marseille made sure of three points in the 67th minute when Czech defender Rudolf Skacel scored from 20 metres to register his first goal for the club. Ticketmaster

Ludovic Giuly's two goals were the toast of Monaco on Saturday as they held onto top spot with a 2-1 win at Guingamp.

Spain international Fernando Morientes, who scored twice against Athens in last week's Champions League action, passed a fitness test on an injured calf before the Guingamp game and was involved in both Giuly's goals.

Just 10 minutes later, Didier Deschamps' men were two goals ahead when Giuly once more found the target, after good work by Morientes and striker Dado Prso, for his sixth goal this season.

Nicolas Gousse pulled a goal back for Guingamp in the 52nd minute when Pierre-Yves Andre crossed from the right to pick him out unmarked for an easy header past Monaco keeper Tony Sylva but Monaco held on for the win.

The only down side for Monaco was a red card for defender Gael Givet who kneed Guingamp's Nicolas Laspalles in the face.

Nantes beat Rennes 1-0 at home thanks to Algerian Fodil Hadjadj in the 22nd minute, and PSG also won by the same score with Pauleta's 20th minute goal to end Sochaux's 29-match unbeaten record at home. Ticketmaster

However, Sochaux coach Guy Lacombe hit out at the referee in the game claiming that his side had been denied a legitimate penalty when Mickael Pagis was chopped down in the area.

"There were a number of things in the match which makes me think that Sochaux could not have won tonight," said Lacombe.

"PSG will be in the top three or four. French football undoubtedly wants to see that. We have seen that here tonight - it is a scandal." Ticketmaster

Lyon's Peguy Luyindula scored a hat-trick in their 4-2 thrashing of lowly Ajaccio in Corsica to give a warning to other clubs that the reigning champions are not out of the picture for a repeat triumph.
