in three matches and a goal from fellow striker Steve Marlet four minutes later

Played on Saturday:
NANTES 1 STADE RENNES 0
A rifling 25-metre shot by Algerian midfielder Fodil Hadjadj midway through the first half earned Nantes the three points. The home side were on top in the first period but Rennes came back strongly in the second and created a host of half-chances. Rennes goalkeeper Petr Cech had a fine match and saved superbly from defender Sylvain Armand late in the game. Ticketmaster

SOCHAUX 0 PARIS ST GERMAIN 1
Unbeaten at home for 29 matches, Sochaux fell behind to a 21st-minute goal from Portuguese striker Pauleta, his fourth of the season, from a pass by Fabrice Fiorese. Goalkeeper Jerome Alonzo's performance guaranteed PSG's fourth successive win and Sochaux ended the game in disarray with midfielder Wilson Oruma sent off in injury time for complaints to the referee.

EN AVANT GUINGAMP 1 MONACO 2
Two superb first-half goals by Ludovic Giuly put the leaders firmly in charge but a red card for defender Gael Givet, after a stomach-high challenge on Nicolas Laspalles, just before halftime changed the game. The home side scored within eight minutes of the restart through Nicolas Gousse but Monaco held on for their ninth successive game without defeat. Ticketmaster

AC AJACCIO 2 OLYMPIQUE LYON 4
Champions Lyon took an early lead through Peguy Luyindula after a long kick by goalkeeper Gregory Coupet was laid into his path by Brazilian Giovane Elber. Ajaccio equalised in first half injury time when Bernard Diomede headed in as the Lyon defence stood and watched. Congo's Luyindula hit two more goals in the second half on a terrible pitch to put Lyon clear of danger. Dalibor Mitrovic scored a consolation goal for the home side in injury time.

NICE 0 STRASBOURG 0
A disappointing result for Nice, fourth at start of play, in a match full of scoring chances. Midfielder Everson could have won it for the home side in the final seconds when his shot from more than 30 metres was tipped on to the bar by Richard Dutruel. Ticketmaster

AJ AUXERRE 3 LILLE 0
Two goals by Djibril Cisse in the five minutes before halftime put the game beyond Lille and the France striker added another in the second half just to make sure. Cisse, who scored two in Auxerre's last home game, stabbed home the first, hammered the second and a fine move ended with Yann Lachuer setting him up from close range for his third.

LE MANS 0 GIRONDINS BORDEAUX 0
Le Mans, still without a win and with only one goal to their name, are grateful for small mercies and this was one of them in a match of few thrills. Ticketmaster

RC LENS 0 METZ 2
Lens are having an up-and-down season and this was definitely one of the down days. Thrashed 4-0 by Lyon in their last game, they were outplayed by Metz who scored twice in the second half through striker Toifilou Maoulida -- the second a superb 25-metre effort in injury time. Lens ended with nine men after Senegal's Papa Bouba Diop and Cameroon's Rigobert Song were sent off in the second half.

TOULOUSE 2 MONTPELLIER 2
Montpellier were made to pay for a missed penalty in the 10th minute -- Fode Mansare smacked the ball against the bar -- when a far post header by Achille Emana put the home side ahead. Montpellier were given another penalty shortly before halftime when Toulouse striker Christophe Avezac, also at fault for the first spot kick, brought down Habib Bamogo. This time Bamogo took the kick and scored. Bamogo added a second before Cedric Faure equalised with the third penalty of the night in the 75th minute.
